Land owner docked over alleged cheating, breach of trust

“A land owner was on Monday charged to an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting N250,000 under false pretence of selling a plot of land to a prospective buyer.

The Prosecutor, Insp. James Odaodu, told the court that the accused, Alade Usman, on Oct. 7, 2015, collected the money for the plot of land from one Ayamolowo David.

The prosecutor said that the accused neither provided the complainant the plot of land nor refunded his money.

James said that the accused wrote a letter of undertaking, promising to pay on Feb. 28, but failed to do so.

He said the accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, contrary to Sections 312 and 322 of Penal Code Law of Kwara.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Adeyanju, granted the accused N50, 000 bail and two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to May 20 for further mention.”
