The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, will today (Monday) signal the commencement of general rehabilitation of roads across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said in a statement on Sunday that 100 roads would be rehabilitated in the first phase of the project, which will be carried out in the three Senatorial districts of the state.
Akinmade said the development was the actualisation of the promise made by the governor to the people that all the bad roads in the state would be rehabilitated immediately after the raining season, adding that the first phase of the project would be done with quickly to enable work commence on the next phase.
He said the road rehabilitation project would be handled by the Ondo State Asphalt Company Limited, adding that some of the roads in Akure, the state capital, would witness major construction, especially the Ijoka, Odo-Ikoyi and Isolo roads.
The heavy rains before the advent of the dry season, he stated, had adversely affected most of the roads, adding, “Now that the dry season is here, the government is taking advantage of the time as it is most appropriate to fix the roads.”
The Chairman, Ondo State Asphalt Company, Mr. Kehinde Osikoya, explained that in executing the project, the firm would use seven gangs, with three in Akure and one each in Ondo, Owo, Ikare and Okitipupa, adding that drainages would be provided on all the roads so as to ensure their longevity.
“The 100 roads we are going to begin work on now are basically for the first phase of what has been tagged the general rehabilitation of roads in Ondo State,” he explained.
Osikoya said apart from the over 50 roads that had been identified in Akure, 14, 10, 11, and 12 were also identified for repair in Ondo, Owo, Ikare and Okitipupa, respectively.
