The police have arrested one Thompson David, 27, of No. 21 Abeokuta Street, Bariga, Lagos, for burgling a house.
David was said to have scaled the fence of No. 15 Oyenuga Street, Akoka, Bariga, and stole property worth N95,000 from the apartment of one Richard Ifediora.
An eyewitness, identified simply as Babajide, said there had been a high rate of burglary in Bariga and its environs.
He added that when David was done and he tried to scale the fence to escape, residents who saw him alerted policemen, who were on routine patrol of the area, and he was apprehended.
Babajide said, “Burglars have stolen property worth several millions of naira in Bariga and its environs. With the arrest of David, I believe the police are ready for them this time.
“I am always surprised about how they break into people’s homes without getting caught despite the heavy locks and guard dogs in most homes. If the police continue to patrol this way, they will curb many criminals not only in this area, but also in all parts of the state.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, stated that David was apprehended by a police patrol team while trying to escape from the scene of the crime.
He added that the suspect had confessed to stealing one Amazon phone valued at N70,000 and N25,000 from his victim’s apartment.
According to him, the complainant alleged that David gained access into the house by scaling the fence from the back around 11.15pm and stole one Amazon phone valued at N70,000 as well as N25,000.
Elkana stated, “We have arrested one Thompson David, 27, of No. 21 Abeokuta Street, Bariga, while trying to scale the fence of one Richard Ifediora at No. 15 Oyenuga Street, Akoka, Bariga.
“An on the spot interrogation revealed that the suspect had invaded the residence of the complainant by scaling the fence and broke into the house through the back door and stole the following items: one Amazon phone valued at N70,000, and N25,000.”
He added that investigation was in progress and that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
The PPRO also stated that one Ade Thomas of Odunlana Street, Bariga, was arrested with 195 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp during a raid on a criminal hideout on June 24 around 12.15pm.
He said, “Police personnel, on June 24, raided a criminal hideout around 12.15pm in an intelligence-led operation and arrested one Ade Thomas at Odunlana Street, Bariga, with a total of 195 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The case is under investigation.”
