A truck driver died while his assistant sustained serious injuries in a road crash on Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The crash, which occurred at 4 am. yesterday, involved two vehicles carrying a total of three persons.
The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement he released in Abeokuta yesterday.
Akinbiyi stated that the accident occurred at the Kyakyama axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway due to alleged reckless driving on the part of the driver of a truck loaded with beer. According to him, the truck rammed into a stationary cement-laden truck, parked beside the road. He said the injured victim was taken to a hospital at Ogere, Remo, while the body of the deceased was deposited at a mortuary in Ipara-Remo.
“TRACE is again using this opportunity to implore motorists to stop excessive speeding, especially as the rainy season is still here with us, with its attendant consequences,” Akinbiyi said.
