Houses, foodstuffs, and property belonging to some residents in three villages under Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State have been destroyed following a fire outbreak.
Garin Kaduwa, Daawa and Samo were the villages engulfed by the Saturday’s fire outbreak, thereby rendering many families homeless.
Though the cause of the fire could not be traced, it was believed to have been ignited by wind, while the flames fanned by the strong wind reached the other villages and wreaking havoc on the residents.
Report indicated that in Garin Kaduwa village alone, 37 households suffered great losses as their houses were all consumed by the blaze and no one is so far confirmed injured.
The remoteness of the villages from Sabon Garin Nangere, the headquarters of the local government had given firefighters little hope of rescuing the villages’ buildings.
The Director-Personnel Management (DPM) overseeing Nangere Local Government, Usman Hassan Makeri confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday, pointing out that, “yes there was fire disaster in some villages under my Local Government Area.
“We responded rapidly by visiting the scene to sympathize with the victims, definitely they suffered losses and I have immediately directed my Community Development Officer to get the full details so that today, we would send to Yobe State Emergency Management Agency for intervention”.
He added that the local government is also in consultation with relevant stakeholders from the area to bring succour to the affected persons who virtually lost all their belongings to the inferno.
One of the victims, Malam Muhammad Kaduwa said that the fire was as a result of the hot and dry weather condition in the area, with a wind flow.
He appealed to governments, well-spirited individuals and humanitarian organisations operating in the state to come to their aid by alleviating their sufferings.
The loses from the fire outbreak in those farming communities have not been estimated yet, but it is believed that the damages were huge with the villagers now becoming the shadows of themselves.
