The Ogun Police Command on Wednesday arrested one Landlord called Adegbite Taoreed for allegedly robbing one Wale Okeyingbo of his car.
Taoreed was arrested with one other accomplice, Taiwo Raheem, in Soyoye, a suburb of Abeokuta.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, paraded the suspect at the premises of the Federal State Anti Robbery Squad, Magbon, Abeokuta.
Oyeyemi said that policemen at Lafenwa Division received a distress call from Oke Odo community in Soyoye area of Abeokuta that about six armed robbers had invaded the community.
He said: “The Divisional Police Officer in Lafenwa Division, CSP Mohammed Odunlami, mobilised his anti-robbery team and went to the scene.
“Before they got there the robbers had succeeded in robbing one of the residents, Wale Okeyingbo, of his Land Rover vehicle.
“The DPO and his team gave them hot chase. The policemen and the bandit engaged in gun battle at Oke Ata Housing Estate area in Abeokuta.
“At the end of the encounter, one of the robbers was gunned down, sustaining a very serious injury.
“He was arrested together with another member of the gang.
“Surprisingly, the suspected leader of the gang, Taoreed, happens to be close door neighbour of the victim. He is also a landlord in that area.
“He led his gang member to his house and forcefully collected his car key from him as well as the document of the vehicle before they drove the vehicle away.”
The victim told the News Agency of Nigeria that he and Taoreed were landlords in the same community.
He said: “The robbers came to my house, shooting sporadically while demanding for the key to my car. I gave them through the window.
“They also said they wanted to see my face, I pleaded with them before they left.”
The victim commended the police for a job well done, saying that he had already lost hope of recovering his car.
