Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said that the several road constructions and networks in Osun have helped the Corps in discharging her constitutional duties across the state.
The Zonal Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in-charge of Zone 11, ACM Olumide Michael Olagunju, stated this when he paid a working visit to Aregbesola at the Governor’s office in Osogbo.
Olagunju lauded Aregbesola government for prioritizing the security of lives and property of the citizenry.
He also commended Governor Aregbesola for his efforts in infrastructural development, which he said has reduced cases of road mishaps in the state drastically.
Olagunju, who has just been posted to Zone 11 Command, which comprised Osun, Oyo and Ondo States praised Aregbesola’s infrastructural development efforts in the last seven and half years, a gesture, which he said has reduced road accidents.
The FRSC boss in the Command said Osun has distinguished itself as a leading light among its peers in the commitment to infrastructural development, which has aided the Corps in its efforts towards achieving effectiveness and efficiency in the discharge of its duties to the people of the state.
“I have had the opportunity of working in many states of the federation and I want to state here without sentiment that our job which is to keep the roads safe is easier in Osun because of the good roads which have been put in place by the present administration of Governor Aregbesola.
“If there are good roads everywhere like we have in Osun, there will definitely be a reduction in road accidents and other associated mishaps.
“I am amazed and full of praises for the kind of leadership God bestowed on Osun as the present administration has sincerely performed excellently well to secure the lives and property of the citizen through the provision of basic infrastructural facilities in various sectors.
“I have served in this state before and I knew how the state was prior to Aregbesola’s emergence but there is no doubting the fact that Osun now wears a new look in terms of physical infrastructural development compared to what we have some years ago.
“Since my posting to this Command, I have been going around the three states in the Command, I have visited so many places in Osun and I have seen the impact of the Aregbesola-administration on infrastructure development, a gesture that has not only eased our job but also helped to prevent unnecessary road mishap on our roads in the state.
“I wish other states could take a cue from the Osun example because the first step to ensuring safety on to provide good road constructions to support the Corps and rescue the state from avoidable road disasters.
“What Aregbesola has done in terms of ensuring that all the roads in the state are in good condition is a testament to the fact that he is a governor that has value and love for human life and we promise to do our best at complementing his efforts to ensure that roads within and outside the state are not only saved from accident but better used and maintained,” the FRSC boss emphasized.
In his response, Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, applauded the leadership of the FRSC in the Command for living up to its responsibilities at ensuring safety on the roads across the state.
He attributed the commitment of the Corps to serve as a way of reducing cases of road mishaps in the state, saying it is on records that the FRSC have recorded remarkable feats in averting needless deaths on the roads.
Describing the FRSC as lifesavers, Aregbesola called on Nigerians to embrace the culture of responsible driving in a bid to reduce possible and avoidable road mishaps.
Governor commended the efforts of the Corps in Osun and expressed delight on the existing collaboration between the Command of the Corps and the Osun Ambulance Service scheme, a synergy he said has saved a lot of lives and prevented possible road accidents since the inauguration of the scheme.
The Governor lamented the traumatic consequence of road mishap whenever it occurs, explaining that more lives are lost to road accidents than diseases, hence the need for all to support the Corps’ effort free the country from road fatality.
He called for a better management of the driving schools in the country, stressing that if this is done it will go a long way in having more descent drivers thereby reducing road mishaps.
According to him, “Sincerely speaking I love the job you do on our roads because you are lifesavers. It’s funny that Nigeria is more scared of diseases than road accidents not knowing that road accidents claim more lives than the dreaded HIV and AIDS.
“As I commend the efforts of the FRSC at making our road safer, we need to also intensify efforts at making our driving schools more credible because this will translate to the kind of drivers we will have on our highways.
“The issuance of driver’s license also needs to be taken more serious through our driving schools if we are truly serious to fight recklessness and other related anomalies on our roads.
“It is good to know that the symbiotic relationship between the Osun Command of the FRSC and the Osun Ambulance scheme has saved thousands of lives on our roads,” Aregbesola stressed.
