The Nigerian Institution Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) will begin its 45th annual conference today in Osun State to meet its professional obligations and relevance in the build industry.
Essentially, the realtors would be considering ‘‘Urban Regeneration as a Catalyst for National Development”, with a view to discussing key issues related to city development.
Also to be considered at the parley are urban renewal in Osun- the story so far, acquisition and compensation issues in urban regeneration, private public partnership in tourism development, global best practices in tourism development and the role of estate surveyors and valuers in urban regeneration.
According to the 21st president of the institution, Mr. James Omeru, themes of its conferences have in the past few years been structured to address critical issues affecting physical and infrastructural development of the nation.
Omeru added that this became necessary as state governments have been clamoring for funds to develop their states, hence, there is a pressing need for estate surveyors and valuers to look inwards and see how internal revenue could be generated in a bid to help develop the state’s infrastructure.
According to the president, “we must continue to render advice to government and would be investors on the need and viability of sourcing internally generated revenues to boost their financial base. As you may be aware, Osun 2015 will help to expose how revenue can be generated from the urban regeneration of Osun State; the policy, the state governor holds dear and the ancient town of Osogbo with all its tourist attractions such as the Osun Shrine, Erin Ijesha Water Fall will make us feel at home.”
