About N48million was paid to 33 families as crop compensation by government officials to further demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of the people.
Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Daniel Adejobi, at the ceremony held in Abeokuta recalled that 170 hectares of land was acquired by the State Government for the purpose of modern housing estate, out of which compensation had been paid on 50 hectares and “the remaining 120 hectares is what we are paying today”.
He said the gesture was to create more jobs and engage the people for self-development saying that the multiple effects would be positive on the people to revive their businesses.
He enjoined them to use the money judiciously to have return on investment.
Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun appreciated the people for their patience and having faith in the present administration, assuring that every beneficiary would be fully compensated.
Okefun said the present administration under the leadership of Senator Ibikule Amosun was committed to fulfilling its promises and assured them of Government determination in giving a more comfortable livelihood to its citizens.
“We are mindful that the bulk of our people’s sustenance is farming and we are not going to take that away from you. We are focused on bringing back the lost glory of the State through the agricultural sector,” Sokefun said.
She assured that village excision would be given to the affected communities and Ogun State Government would construct houses for the people to fit into the master plan of the estate.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Afolabi Odunewu and Alhaji Waheed Ayoola appreciated the Ogun state government gesture, adding that the payment was timely, especially at this time of economic recession.
