Ogun State – In its drive at revitalizing the economic activities at Agbara – Igbesa axis, Ogun State government is partnering with a private firm, China- Africa Investment for the reconstruction of the 10-kilometre Lusada-Igbesa road.
The reconstruction of the single carriageway is being done through Public-Private-Partnership(PPP). The road projects come with median, street lights, drains and walkway facilities.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony kick-starting the reconstruction of the road at the weekend, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, said the decision to reconstruct the road was based on government determination to enhance the status of the area as the industrial hub of the Gateway State.
Amosun who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Kayode Ademolake, an engineer said the PPP arrangement model, is based on Build, Operate and Transfer ( BOT) basis.
He added that the model was not only aimed to involve the private sector in the provisions of key infrastructure, will also free needed fund to enable the State provide more dividends of democracy.
He pointed out that those whose buildings were affected due to the road reconstruction had been compensated by the State government noting that residents of Igbesa town, as well as Okada riders and Keke Napep operators, will be exempted from paying tolls on the road when completed.
In his remarks, the Managing Director, China- Africa Investment, Mr. Wu, promised that the road reconstruction would be completed in record time, seeking the cooperation of the indigenes of the area.
Speaking on behalf of the indigenes, the Asiwaju of Igbesa and Chairman Community Consultative Forum, Asiwaju Ajibola Olagbaye, assured of the full support of his people, appealing to motorists and other road users to bear strains and stress of the short period during the reconstruction period.
