The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised to fight land grabbing if elected governor of the state.
He described land grabbing as “criminal and primitive,” saying those involved in the act would be dealt with.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that land thugs were discouraging genuine investment in property business in the state, adding that the development had affected the economy of the state and the rights of individuals.
The APC candidate, according to a statement on Thursday, spoke when members of the Estate Rent and Commission Agent Association of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at his campaign office in GRA, Ikeja.
“We have had various complaints about the activities of land grabbers and we are ready to tackle this problem. We understand the implication of land grabbing on the economy of Lagos and preventable losses incurred by investors. To tackle the issue, we will need to look at the activities of the existing land grabbing committee and strengthen the law setting it up to properly address the issues.
“To promote investment in the property development sector, we have to stop the land grabbers. We will also fast-track the process of the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy. We are going to sanitise the procedures and restore the confidence of real estate investors in the government to protect their investment,” he said in the statement.
The ERCAAN Chairman in Lagos, Kazeem Adesina, said members of the association were ready to work with Sanwo-Olu to ensure his victory in the governorship election.
