5,000 Lagos residents screened for cancer, eye, BP, others

No fewer than 5,000 residents from five Local Government Areas of Lagos State were screened for breast cancer, high blood pressure, blood sugar and other deadly diseases.

New Telegraph reports that this was even as the residents appealed to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to extend the free health screening organised by the Health is Wealth Mission, an initiative of Senator Gbenga Ashafa held simultaneously at Kosofe, Shomolu, Ikorodu, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki Local Governments to other parts of the state.

According to New Telegraph, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, while speaking at one of the health screening exercises held at Kosofe Local Government, said the free health screening was necessary for the residents of Lagos East Senatorial District, describing the exercise as his intervention through the legislative arm of the government.

Ashafa, who said he was targeting no fewer than 2 million residents in the state via the Health is Wealth initiative, urged residents to always come out for screening, saying most Nigerians were at the risk of health issues as a result what they eat and drink.
