Death toll in the collapsed building at Lekki in the early hours of today has risen to six as rescue operations by the National Emergency Management Agency, South West zone and Lagos State Fire Service are still ongoing.
“We have recovered six dead bodies so far. Six others have also been rescued alive,” Ibrahim Farinloye of the state-run National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) told AFP.
Rescue workers were trying to pull out more people from the rubble of the collapsed building in the Lekki district, which has some of the most expensive real estate in the city.
“We still hear cries and voices from the rubble indicating that some people are still trapped,” Farinloye said, adding the cause of the collapse was not yet determined.
But it came after the first significant rainfall of the season overnight.
