The Ogun State Government has said it will no longer tolerate illegal and improper waste disposal across the state. This is with a view to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye, was quoted to have stated this in Abeokuta, adding that residents were in the habit of dumping refuse on road medians and drainage channels despite the government’s recent campaign against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
According to him, the Governor Ibikunle Amosun administration will no longer tolerate illegal dumping of wastes, unkempt market places, and display of wares on road setbacks.
“The government has invested a huge amount of money in the construction of road infrastructure, it is unfair for residents to deface these infrastructures with filth,” the commissioner said.

Oyeleye stated that such an action would be repeated in other parts of the state in due course if the residents failed to comply with the government’s directive.
“Some people are still in the habit of dumping refuse on the median of our newly constructed roads in the state despite our daily inspection and warning, but they continue to deface it with filth; the government will resist it by closing down their markets,” he said.
He added that the administration’s zero tolerance for filth would be beneficial to the well-being of the citizens and the socio-economic growth of the state.
