Building Collapse Increase Is Worrisome – NEMA DG

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Sani Sidi, yesterday described the increase in building collapse as worrisome.

He said lives and property have been lost as a result of building collapse.

According to him, there is need for contractors to abide by the rules and regulations while building houses, to protect them from collapse.

The director-general spoke when he inaugurated an excavator vehicle for rescuing victims of building collapse in Northwest states.

Sidi, represented by the Northwest zone Coordinator, Musa Ilallah, said the excavator will be used when there is building collapse in the zone.

The Deputy Controller, Fire Service, Northwest zone, Obisesan Olatunde, hailed NEMA for buying the excavator.

He said it could also be used to expand drainages in case of flood disaster.
