FEC approves 215MW power plant for Kaduna State

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has given an approval for the construction of a power plant in Kaduna State, which is expected to generate 215 megawatts of electricity.

According to Vanguard, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, dropped the hints while briefing State House Correspondents alongside his colleagues in the Ministry of Information, Budget and National Planning at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The minister said the project, when completed would strengthen the national grid, adding that the project was awarded in 2009 to be completed in 2012 but was abandoned.

According to him, the present administration has decided to complete the project due to its importance to the economy.

He also said that the project would include the construction of another sub-station to evacuate 40 megawatts of power from the Gurara hydro electric power plant, phase one to connect Kaduna.

Fashola said: “Council approved 215megawatt Kaduna power plant. The memo sought procurement and implementation defects and lack of budget support for the project which was started 2009 and should have been completed in 2012, but we are now in the position that we can complete this project by next year to add 215 megawatt of power to the national grid.
