New Telegraph reports that Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has appealed to the federal government to urgently address the deplorable state of the federal roads in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones.
He made the appeal at the Government House, Umuahia, when he received in audience the Senate Committee on Works, led by its chairman, Senator Kabiru Gaya.
The governor said that poor road network in the South-East and South-South, especially Abia had made it difficult for commerce and business to thrive, noting that a journey from Aba to Ikot Ekpene or Aba to Port Harcourt that would ordinarily take 30 minutes would last up to five hours.
He lamented that most federal roads in the state, including the Aba Ikot Ekpene, the Umuahia Ikot Ekpene, the Ohafia- Arochukwu roads, had posed threat to lives and property and also endanger the security of communities.
