The Ogun State Government has announced the issuance of another batch of Certificates of Occupancy arising from the on-going Homeowners’ Charter Programme.
In a press release, the Special Adviser/Director General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo said that Homeowners’ Charter was a highly successful programme, which enables property owners to regularize the legal status and documentation of their properties.
He stated that Certificates of Occupancy for over 5000 of those who applied under the scheme were now ready for issuance and these would be presented by the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta at 2.00pm.
Oshinowo explained that with investments in technology, the Bureau of Lands and Survey now has the capacity to issue up to 1000 Certificates of Occupancy per week and that for ease of administration, C of O relating to Homeowners’ Charter would be issued in further batches of 500 until all qualifying properties had been processed.
He therefore enjoined those who had applied under the scheme to co-operate with the property inspection progress which was continuing state-wide, reassuring the public that all qualifying properties would be issued with Certificates of Occupancy and Approved Building plans where applicable.
He commended the public for their overwhelming support and endorsement of the programme and thanked the community development associations and relevant professional organizations for their co-operation.
The Homeowners Charter was launched by the Ogun State Government in December 2013 and allows property owners to regularize the legal status and documentation of residential property built without approval on private land or built illegally on government owned lands.
The programme provides discounts of up to 78 percent on the usual costs.
