To address office and residential accommodation challenges in Maiduguri metropolis, the Borno State Government has acquired nine-abandoned properties valued at N1.2 billion

The acquired properties, located in various parts of the metropolis are to be “demolished and rebuilt” as model schools, El kanemi Warriors Football Quarters, Government Lodge and office accommodations for State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Commissioner for Works and Transport, Adamu Lawan, who disclosed this while inspecting the demolition of acquired properties at Government Reservation Area (GRA) and Airport road, said the property were acquired to avoid wastages. He stressed that the nine properties will be demolished and rebuilt to address residential and office accommodations problems.

According to him, three of the property will be converted into schools, in order to address accommodations challenges in the metropolis. “Now that government has acquired these properties, our priority will be to cater for the needs of visitors to state and public uses. The policy measures could also reduce shortages of residential and office accommodations, including some of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) currently taking refuge in camps and host communities”, he said.
