FCTA rehabilitates Abaji-Rubochi 10km road

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) has flagged off the rehabilitation of Abaji-Rubochi 10.2 kilometers road, at the cost of N490 million.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony yesterday, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, revealed that the administration has paid 15 per cent mobilization fee to an indigenous construction firm for the project. Represented by the mandate secretary, FCT Area Council Service Secretariat (FCT-ACSS), Malam Adamu Bappah, Bello assured that the administration would continue to pay emphasis on rural infrastructural development.

According to him, “This road project is very significant to FCTA, because of the connectivity of both Abaji and Kuje area councils. When completed, it will reduce the pressure on the major highway, thereby making transportation of goods and services easier for rural dwellers.

“It is amazing to note that this road was last constructed 32 years ago, and because of the deplorable condition of the road, farmers find it difficult to transport their farm produce to the larger markets. We are therefore committed to the completion of this project and other rural projects across the territory.”

Speaking earlier, the coordinator of FCT Satellite Towns Development Department, (STDD), Hon. Tanko Yamawo, pledged that his department is committed to rural infrastructural development in FCT. Yamawo, who revealed that the 10.2 kilometers road project would be completed in 20 weeks, also assured that the road would also be extended from Rubochi to Kuje main town, after the completion of the first phase.

The coordinator, therefore, solicits the understanding of communities along the road corridor, stressing that for meaningful development to be achieved, there are tendencies that people would suffer some form of inconveniences.

Also speaking, the Esu Rubochi, HRH Ibrahim Pada, who was visibly elated, pledged that the communities under his domain would assist the contractor handling the project, to complete the job on schedule. Pada observed that the deplorable condition of the road has impacted negatively, not only on agricultural sector but also on the education institutions located within Rubochi and its environs, adding that criminals take advantage of the poor state of the road to rob innocent residents.

“We are grateful to FCT Administration for taking this bold step to rehabilitate this road project after 32 years of abandonment. We are grateful because this road network has impacted negatively on our people. Most students in Government College and other educational institutions located in Rubochi do not return back after spending one academic session, due to bad road. To worsen the situation, criminals take advantage of the poor road to rob innocent people. We, therefore, thank the FCT Minister and his team for the step taken to address our problem.”

Those who witnessed the flag-off ceremony include chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Abdullahi Galadima and his Abaji counterpart, Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya, as well as directors of STDD among others.
