Two men arraigned for allegedly stealing Nigerian railway corporation’s cables

Two men, Ademola Onifade, 20, and Riyali Abdullmumin, 27, were on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing and vandalising cables in the premises of Nigerian Railway Corporation.

The defendants were arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, damage, stealing and receiving stolen property.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that Onifade committed the offences on Sept. 1 at 2:00 a.m. at Railway Corporation’s compound at Agbado, Ogun.

He said Onifade had trespassed into the compound, cut and stole electric cables that were kept in the compound, property of Nigerian Railway Corporation.

“Onifade sold the electric cables to Abdullmumin at the rate of N5, 000,” he told the court.

The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 411, 351, 287 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr. A.A. Fashola, granted Onifade bail in the sum of N400, 000, and Abdullmumin, in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case until Dec. 12.
