Lagos Anglican diocese set to build housing estate for community

The Bishop, Diocese of Lagos Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Humphrey Olumakaiye, says the diocese will soon commence work on the centenary city it plans to build to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the church.

Olumakaiye spoke on Wednesday in Lagos during a press conference, explaining that the city which would be located between Ibeju-Lekki and Epe areas was the church’s way of giving back to society.

“The centenary city would be for everyone but we will not compromise our faith for anybody. We need about N5bn for the first phase of the project and this will be sourced internally from our members. What God has given us; we are giving back to society.

“After 100 years we are still growing strong despite persecutions. Many churches that started 20, 30 years ago have died, but we thank God that we are still growing higher,” Olumakaiye said.

The bishop of the Lagos Anglican Diocese added that the city would have an empowerment and youth development centre, amusement park, low-income housing estate, convention ground, hospital, among others.

He said the theme of the centenary anniversary would be, ‘Stronger, deeper and higher’, with text from Isaiah 40:31. He added that the grand finale would hold on December 10, 2019, at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.

On the forthcoming elections, Olumaikaiye said the diocese would continue to sensitise its members to participate, stressing that the church had no preferred candidates.
