FG completes over 152 housing units in North East in 3yrs – Official

Mr. Micah Waziri, the North East Zonal Director, National Housing Programme, on Thursday said no fewer than 152 housing units had been completed out of the 480 units embarked on by the Federal government in the region.

It was reported that Waziri made the disclosure in Bauchi after inspection of the ongoing construction work of 80 housing units along the Bauchi-Ningi Road.

He said that 80 housing units in Taraba were awaiting inauguration while work in the Bauchi unit had reached 95 per cent completion.

According to the director, the federal government embarks on construction of 480 houses in the six states of North East region consisting Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Yobe and Taraba States.

Waziri said that 80 housing units were being constructed in each of the six states within the zone.

He said that while those in Bauchi and Taraba were completed, those in the remaining states were at various levels of completion.

Waziri also said that 80 houses have been constructed in each of the six states in the zone.

“The 80 houses in Taraba State had been completed and awaiting commissioning while that of Bauchi State is at 95 per cent completion. The remaining 320 houses in Adamawa, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe States are at various stages of completion.

“In spite of hitches experienced during the initial commencement of the project, I am highly impressed with the pace and quality of the work being executed,” the Waziri said.

Mr Mohammed Adamu, the Federal Controller, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (Housing Sector), said that the houses in Bauchi comprises three bedrooms, two bedrooms and one bedroom detached bungalows.

Adamu explained that the project was executed under the 2016 National Housing Programme, though the contract was awarded on Jan. 15, 2015 to 20 contractors.

He said that 72 houses out of the 80 had been completed while the remaining were at various stages of completion.

Adamu said that road network, drains, and culverts, asphalt as well as pavement and walkways have also been completed.

He said that installation of two-500 KVA transformers and street lights have equally been completed while two boreholes, storage tank, and water reticulation projects were at various stages of completion.

The controller announced that the ministry had acquired a parcel of land for the second phase of the project.

Adamu said that the ministry would improve on the designs and specifications of the houses for the second phase, adding that procurement process had commenced.

According to him, construction work on the second phase will commence in March.
