Akwa Ibom State Government finally okays construction work on Idua road

There was palpable sigh of relief for the contractor handling the 3.3km Idua Road project in Eket, Limbech Development Nigeria Limited, as the Akwa Ibom State Government finally endorsed the quality of work done there.

Speaking during an inspection tour of some ongoing road projects in Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, the works Commissioner, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen, lauded the project contractor for what he described as the perfect finishing of the drainage system on the road as against the earlier job done at the inception of the project.

It will be recalled that Mr. Inyangeyen had earlier ordered the excavation of the drainage on the road and it’s reconstruction, warning that, the Akwa Ibom State Government will not accept any contracted project which was not executed according to specifications, threatening to revoke the contract of underperforming contractors.

It was, however, all smiles as the Works Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work done when he visited the project on Tuesday, September 4, a couple of months after the order to rework the drainages.

A cross-section of residents who spoke with newsmen on the development were visibly elated at the progress and improved quality of work done in the area.

Fielding questions from our reporter, a businesswoman, Mrs. Affiong Udeme, lauded the Akwa Ibom State Government for heeding their earlier complaint about the road project and for not compromising standards. She also commended the contractor for living up to expectations, insisting that residents of Idua road and adjoining communities in Eket will now be spared the devastating flood that usually ravages the area.

Other road projects in Eket visited by Mr. Inyangeyen who was flanked by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr John Itiat, Directors and Site Engineers include the 3.0km Ebekpe – Ikot Eket Road which is handled and the 2.7km Ikot Odiong – Ikot Abasi Road, handled by Zerock Construction Company.

The team also inspected the 13.5KM Ikot Ebiere road which traverses, Ikot Edor – Ikot Iko Ibom – Akom – Ukpana and Ikwe villages with a 15 metres span bridge, which spans across Onna and Mkpat Enin Local Government Areas by Ber Jin Construction Company (BJCC).

The Works Commissioner expressed delight at the pace of work done on the various roads and however charged the contractors to redouble efforts and ensure the jobs are delivered on schedule.

He stressed the determination of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration to develop rural and agrarian communities and link them up to urban centres with a view to driving agriculture, trade, commerce as well as free flow of goods, services and social interactions amongst the people.
