FMBN commends Ugwuanyi on low-cost housing scheme

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), at the weekend, commended Enugu State Governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for subsidising the houses funded by the bank, appealing to other state governors to emulate the gesture, in order to make houses affordable to civil servants across the federation.

Its Managing Director, Mr Gimba Yau Kumo, said that the allocation of the 100 housing units in FMBN-funded Elim Estate, Ibagwa-Nike, Enugu, through balloting, was one of the activities lined up to mark Ugwuanyi’s 100 days in office.

Kumo, who was represented by the Enugu Zonal Co-ordinator, Simeon Agada, and Enugu State Office Controller, Chris Ibuzo, assured the Enugu State Government of FMBN’s readiness to continue partnering with the government in the area of delivery of residential housing estates in the state.

The keys to 100 one-bedroom flats at Elim Estate, Ibagwa-Nike, Enugu, were, on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, handed over to civil servants on grade levels 01 to 10, by Ugwuanyi, he said.

He also disclosed that the State Government had paid 30 per cent of the cost of the houses, while the balance (70 per cent) would be paid for through mortgage financing by FMBN under the National Housing Fund (NHF) Scheme.

Kumo also informed the state governor that Elim Estate was one of several housing estates funded by the FMBN in the state – alongside Goshen Estate, Jubilee Estate, Vivian Estate, all in Enugu Urban and El-tabera Estate in Nsukka, as some of the other housing estates funded by the bank.

In the same vein, Ugwuanyi outlined a three-pronged event embracing the presentation of keys to 100 units of one bedroom flats at Elim Estate, Ibagwa Nike, Enugu procured for civil servants, the presentation of vehicles to security agencies and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), as well as the presentation of tractors to farmers in the state.

He said that his administration was providing the 100 housing units to the civil servants in line with his policy of addressing the fundamental needs of the people.

The Governor recalled that, upon assumption of office, he did promise to recommit himself to deploying government resources towards employment generation, enhanced social services, good governance, rural development, security and justice in line with the 4-point agenda and a broad policy of continuity and consolidation.

“We have since inception, said that the welfare of workers will always be of concern to this administration. Today, in handing over the keys to 100 units of one bedroom flats at the Elim Estates for which we have paid 30 per cent equity contribution for our civil servants, we are again demonstrating that resolve in practical terms, just as we have continued the prompt payment of salaries and provided electricity, water and other ancillary services to the new state secretariat,” Ugwuanyi said.
