Anambra’s multi-city development plan endorsed by stakeholders

The move by the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to embark on the construction of multi-city projects in Awka Capital Territory, has been endorsed by royal fathers and the chairmen of the various local government areas that make up the area. Seen as the next big thing in Nigeria’s real estate.

The endorsement came when the Awka Capital Territory Development Board, ACTDB led by Mr.Chika Egwuatu, an architect, undertook a familiarization tour of the area.

The stakeholders who lauded the setting up of the 10-man board comprising seasoned professionals, also commended what they called the development revolution of the Obiano administration.

Lamenting that both the past military and civilian administrations had failed to develop a master plan for the Awka Capital Territory, the stakeholders hailed the on-going process to develop an Awka Capital City to be modeled after Dubai, Seoul and Kigali.

The Chairman of Awka South Local Council, Mr. Azubuike Iloh called for the construction of a modern abattoir and a central motor park in the new Awka master plan.

He also advocated the relocation of Eke-Awka main market and Arthur Eze Avenue Building Materials/Timber market to Umuokpu, to allow for free flow of traffic. It will also curtail the activities of hoodlums in the area. Iloh also called for the establishment of small scale industrial centres and a central mechanic village in the town.

In his remarks, a former President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, NIESV, Chief Emeka Onuorah noted that with the calibre of professionals assembled by the governor, the project would succeed as planned.

Onuorah who is the Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, described the board as a great team and praised them for the hard work which resulted in the production of a document modeled after Dubai, Seoul and Kigali within six months.

The Njikoka Council boss called for more enlightenment to enable the populace adhere to planning principles before developing any project. The enlightenment will also assist them to adjust, after the expected initial resistance.
