Youths in Bayan Dutse Area of Nairayi in Kaduna State, on Thursday, burnt down a police station and a church.
The rampaging youths were said to have razed a Narayi parish of Celestial Church of Chrish, over the death of a youth in the area, who was working for the church when he died.
Youths suspecting foul play, stormed the church and razed it before proceeding to the police station where the pastor had run to for protection.
INDEPENDENT learnt that trouble started when the youths demanded for the parish pastor of the church where the man had died
It was gathered that the police had taken the pastor into protective custody after he had reported that a youth doing some construction works for the church had died in the process.
Sources told INDEPENDENT that the youths were able to burn the police station because they outnumbered the policemen on duty.
According to the source, “the police station was burnt because when the hoodlums came, the police on duty were seriously outnumbered, so they took off for safety.”
He said the youths also made away with seven motorcycles and vandalised a Honda Accord vehicle.
The PPRO, Muktar Aliyu disclosed to INDEPENDENT that the situation had been brought under control.
INDEPENDENT’s investigation revealed that the deceased called Sylvester was hired by the pastor for some repairs in the church but unfortunately drowned at a nearby river.
