Eager to reposition the housing industry and increase activities in the sector, the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development may soon begin the implementation of its report on Land Verification, the 10,000 houses project and housing Survey.
The Minister in Charge of the ministry, Mrs. Eyakenyi Akon last week received interim report of the three ministerial committees that was set up in July. The report was presented by Dr. Ezekiel Oyemomi, the Alternate Chairman of the committees who doubles as the Permanent Secretary of the ministry. Each of the committees made a brief presentation of their findings and recommendations.
For instance, Mr. Ezekiel Nya Etok, an architect, made the presentation on the 10,000 housing project while Mr. Ethelbert Mouka, the Director Planning, Research and Statistics made the presentation on the housing survey.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development will today begin a two- day stakeholders validation workshop for the housing and urban development sector at the Rockview Hotel Abuja. The workshop will be looking at the roadmap document developed by industry experts over time with the aim of validating the document for adoption as a working document for the industry.
The ministry has undertaken the development of the roadmap for the housing and urban development sector. The roadmap is to serve as a comprehensive and long term Framework for undertaking sustained interventions in the sector in line with Vision 20:2020, the transformation Agenda, the National housing and Urban development Policies and the National Integrated Infrastructure Master plan.
The roadmap is for the overall development of the sector in Nigeria so Commissioners from all the 36states and FCT have been invited along with Regulatory institutions and sectoral bodies to vet, validate and adopt the roadmap.
