The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, has revealed that a crack at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport is a threat to people and it should be investigated further.
Vanguard reports that COREN attributed the number of collapsed buildings and failed roads in Nigeria to poor engineering works and supervision.
According to Vanguard, this was made known when a team of Engineering Regulation Monitoring, ERM, led by Engr. Innocent Diyoke, embarked on inspection/monitoring of some buildings under construction as well as those already completed in Enugu, to ascertain if they were built according to the accepted world engineering standards.
According to Engr. Diyoke, buildings develop cracks, which eventually lead to their collapse, because their foundations were not well laid.
