CSO laments poor infrastructures in public schools

The President of Future Guardians Initiative (FGI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Mr. Chidiebere Eze, has decried the decay in infrastructures in many public schools across the country.
Eze noted this while presenting awards to 96 pupils drawn from three different schools within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to him, education of the Nigerian child should be a priority to government, because educated children are veritable tool for the development and advancement of society.

He said: “There are a lot of children doing very well in schools, but are not identified, because of one reason or the other bordering on the type of school and location.

“Therefore, our organization is poised to identify and sponsor them, so that they will feel important and appreciated; because of their academic records. Our slogan “catch them young…build the nation” is targeted at helping these exceptional kids to keep excelling.

“Since 2016 that we started operating legally, we have held a programme for students of Special Science Secondary School in Nassarawa state; where we awarded 215 students from JSS1 to SS3: who participated in quiz competitions on Art and Science subjects.

“We also awarded 96 children across three schools today. We are partnering with corporate organizations and other NGOs to encourage children to continue working very hard, even as we need sponsorship from government and well-meaning Nigerians,” he said.

Also speaking, one of the resource persons at the occasion, the Parish Priest of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Gwarinpa, Rev Fr. Nwaiwu Dominic, said that stakeholders in the education sector should come together to build a successful nation through education.

“When education was being administered and overseen by the missionary, things were well-structured, but our school infrastructures started decaying when government took over education.

“However, it is immaterial whether education should be handled by the missionary or government, but we should all come together to oversee the success and education of these promising children,” he said.

Recipients of the awards included pupils from Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Apo, Mata Dei Pacesetters Academy and Clemzy Unique Primary School, who performed exceptionally well in the promotional exams for the next class, especially those who took first, second and third positions from primary one to six.
