Fashola Hints At A N10bn Budget For Housing

Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola has said changes will be made to the national housing policy where necessary. He said some N10 billion might be budgeted for housing in the 2016 budget.

He said there will be private sector participation and consistency in policy implementation in the coming years.

Fashola who was addressing newsmen in Abuja  said ‎the census of 2016 will help government generate data for housing and power supply.

“Only N1.8 billion was budgeted for housing in 2015. This has to change to at least  N10 billion per annum. There  are models this government can key into like the Shagari, Jakande schemes,” he said.

‎The minister said several job losses were due to non payment of contractors and that “this has badly affected GDP.”

Simply by paying contractors economy will be revived.

He said ‎the government was committed to clean energy and that solar, wind and hydro energy will be mixed.

“There is no evidence that there is a cartel behind generator use in Nigeria,” he said. “It is that there was gap so businessmen filled the void.”
