FG pledges support for Nasarawa cargo airport

Federal Government has pledged support for the new Nasarawa State cargo airport project.

New Telegraph reports that the Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, gave the assurance yesterday while receiving Governor Tanko Al-Makura, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.

The minister, who commended the effort of the Nasarawa State government for the project, also noted that the project was geared towards enhancing aviation activities in the country.

Sirika added that the airport would serve as a catalyst for growth in the aviation sector, adding that by virtue of the geographical location of Nasarawa State and its flat land, which was good for agricultural products, the airport, when completed, would serve as the best alternative to Abuja for aviation activities.

The minister further lauded the Government of Nasarawa State for identifying with the dream of the current administration in taking the aviation sector to the next level.

New Telegraph reports that meanwhile, Governor Al-Makura had earlier said that his visit to the minister was primarily to brief him on the development on the construction of a cargo airport in Lafia, the capital of the state.

He said preliminary activities for the construction of the airport had been concluded, adding that work would commence in earnest this January.

Al-Makura further said that the state government had concluded plans to construct a road from Lafia to Keffi to ease the movement of vehicles form the airport to Keffi and Abuja.

He appealed to the minister to expedite action on the procedure for approval of a full-fledged airport in the state even as he expressed his appreciation to the minister for his support so far.
