FG separates Ministry of Works and Housing‎

The Federal Government on Wednesday 21st August 2019 unbundled the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to Federal Ministry of Works and Housing with Babatunde Fashola as Minister and Engr. Abubakar Aliyu as Minister of State respectively.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola is the immediate past Minister of Power, Works, and Housing. He is from Lagos State, while his colleague, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu is from Yobe State.

It could be recalled that President during the 2-day Ministerial retreat organized the Ministers Designate charged the Ministers to work in synergy in order to take the country to the next level. According to President, “the Honourable Ministers must work as a team, open communications with your colleagues. Lack of communication leads to lack of cooperation and sub-optimal performance”.

Reiterating, President’s cardinal position of the present administration, Babatunde Fashola stated that he would provide leadership that will incorporate everybody in the Ministry so that together we can reduce poverty, fight corruption and further grow the economy. “The mandate of President is very clear, it is derived from the people of Nigeria, and he wants us to work as a team to take Nigerians out of poverty irrespective religion or tribe.”

Continuing, the Minister said, “the fortune of the nation is defined by the professionals and the creative ways they apply themselves in the Service”. He, therefore, called on professionals in the sector to apply cost-saving initiatives. He added that the resources of the nation are not enough to do all the works we need to do. “ We need to cut waste, cost and make choices, this way we will be contributing our part in creating a better life for the people of Nigeria”

On his part, the Minister of State, Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu (FNSE)promised to work with the Honourable Minister and the entire staff of the Ministry amicably to advance the course of Mr. President in moving the nation to the next level.“I am not bringing anything new, I am going to work closely with the minister so that we can move the ministry and the country forward”, He said.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mohammed Burkar on behalf of the Ministry thanked President for the confidence he has in the Honourable Minister for reappointing him to the Ministry of Works and Housing.

“On behalf of the entire staff, I congratulate the Minister for his well-deserved re-appointment. We give gratitude to God and Mr. President for your reappointment to continue your good work”, he said.

Speaking further,Burkar said that the Ministry has some of the best, dedicated, patriotic and hardworking Civil Servants adding that collectively, the Officers of the Ministry are a reservoir of experience, expertise, and professionalism.

“We pledge to place these attributes at the disposal of the Ministers and at the service of the Ministry and the nation at large,” he said.
