Gombe residents count losses as flood sacks communities

Residents of Gombe communities affected by flood are counting the loss of shelter, property, farm produce, among others after a heavy downpour that lasted eight hours.

Communities affected by the flood are located at Nafada, Funakaye, Akko and Gombe Local Government Areas of the state.

A resident of Bajoga village of Funakaye Local Government Area, Usaina Musa, told premiumtimes correspondent that most residents fled the affected communities on Wednesday after the incident.

According to her, the heavy rain started around 6:00am, saying since the beginning of the rainy season this year, they had not witnessed such downpour that led to loss of lives and property.

She appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to urgently assist the affected persons with relief materials.

Another victim of the flood told our reporter that some residents were taking refuge in some primary schools and public buildings as their homes were submerged in the flood.

Both officials of NEMA and the state relief agency could not be reached for comment as their mobile phones were switched off as at the time of filing this report.
