Jubilation as contractors return to site in Jos

There were cheers of joy on Wednesday by youths in the Angwan Rogo/Angwan Rimi communities in Jos North local government area of Plateau State when contractors working on the road networks returned to site months after they packed their equipment and left.

The area, together with Tudun Wada, Tina, Dutse Uku and Chanyap were some of the communities neglected by previous administrations which Governor Simon Bako Lalong on assumption office had promised to remedy.

Lalong had in February 2017 awarded a N5 billion road project in which a N1.5 billion contract was signed with Letokem Nig Ltd for the construction of Angwan Rogo to Ali Kazaure while N1.8 billion was awarded to Jolex Nig. Ltd for the construction of Tudun Wada to Mado village and China’s Chinazhonghao was awarded N1.7 billion contract for the construction of roads around Dutse uku, Chanyap and Tina.

However, few months after the contractors had scraped off the road, they had abandoned site for lack of proper mobilization leading to protest by youths in Angwan Rogo.

The governor had two weeks ago pledged to complete and commission all the 22 rural road projects spread across the state before May 29th adding that work had stopped temporarily because of the rain.

Ado Musa who lives in Angwan Rogo thanked Governor Lalong but stressed the need for the contractors to complete the job as soon as possible.

Our correspondent who spoke with the General Manager of Letokem who is in charge of Angwan Rogo, Abdulrasheed Ahmed said they are happy to be back to site but hoped that the state government will continue to raise the funds for them to complete the work in good time.
