As much as some resident in Lagos state still have their peace and tranquility, some others have lost millions to fire outbreak in the outgoing month of May.
The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe, on Tuesday said property worth about N1.4 billion were destroyed by fire within 24 days in May alone.
However, he said, property worth about N6.8 million were saved by rescue workers, while they received about five false rescue calls.
In a statement issued by the agency, Fadipe lamented the challenges encountered by those on rescue missions as a result of scarcity of petroleum products. He said the data gotten was from the 114 rescue calls received from the state fire service Fire Service in May alone.
Fadipe also said the increasing cases of fire outbreak were caused by careless handling and storage of petroleum products mainly by black market operators.
