The Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to review the Ikeja Model City Plan, which became operational in 2010.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the review is part of the state government’s efforts to create a better environment where infrastructure will be adequate and of a standard that befits the status of Lagos as a mega city.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Wasiu Anifowoshe, was quoted as saying that the planned review would help to ascertain the level of compliance with the provisions of the plan and improve on the gains already made.
“The exercise will involve, among others, the evaluation of the level of performance in the area of infrastructural provision, conflict of land uses, transportation, sanitation, security, housing, population, recreation and tourism,” the statement read in part.
It added that traditional heads, community leaders, residents, traders, corporate organisations and civil societies in and around Ikeja should cooperate with the government officials and all others that would be involved in the exercise, especially during the administration of questionnaire, interactive sessions with members of the public and other assessment approaches that might be adopted.
The commissioner also called on all stakeholders to forward memoranda on any matter relating to the review of the plan to the ministry.
