Lagos woos private investors

The Lagos State Government has restated its determination to work with private investors for the provision of affordable housing for residents under the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Bosun Jeje, said this at the handover of one of the housing estates under the scheme, which was named after the late nationalist, Chief Anthony Enahoro, by Governor Babatunde Fashola.

Jeje said, “As we celebrate this achievement, I am sure this will boost the confidence of investors from the private sector to actively participate in the Lagos State public-private partnership initiative in reducing the housing deficit in the state.

“We are determined, more than ever before, to collaborate and work with genuine investors within and beyond the state to ensure that affordable housing is delivered to the people of Lagos State through the Lagos HOMS, a rent-to-own policy.”

The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Tunji Odunlami, described the successful completion of the housing estate as another milestone in the provision of decent housing estates by the government.

He noted that the new estate had been provided with infrastructure such as tarred roads, car park, drainage, external and internal electrification, and a landscaped environment, to make it functional and self-sustaining.

According to him, the estate, which is made up of 20 residential blocks of 240 units, provided 5,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction process.

“The new homes will increase the stock and reduce the housing deficit in Lagos State,” he said.

The commissioner said the ministry was determined to work with investors to ensure the provision of affordable houses to the people.

The governor had earlier announced that the estate, which was formerly known as Shogunro Housing Estate Schemes I and II in Ogba area of the state, would now be known as the Anthony Enahoro Housing Estate.
