LASG Orders Closure Of Building Site In Lekki

The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Abiola Anifowoshe, has ordered the closure of a building site along Wole Olateju Street, Lekki Phase 1 Residential scheme.

According to the ministry, the order is sequel to the disrespect to the physical planning and urban development laws and regulations of the state by the developer.

A statement by the ministry noted that despite the serving of necessary statutory notices, including stop work order, by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the developer continued with the extension work on the existing building within the statutory setback earlier observed.

“The building was almost touching the electricity service cable along the street,” the statement read in part

Anifowoshe was quoted as saying that the state government would not hesitate to wield the big stick by demolishing buildings that were not in conformity with enabling laws, adding that the high level of impunity in the building industry must stop.

The commissioner also decried the development at the A-Sector of Lekki Phase 1, saying that the haphazard development going on at the lagoon front as well as the encroachment into the Five Cowrie Creek by individuals carrying out development in the area were illegal.

According to him, the infringement on the right of way of high tension electric cables and drainage channels at the Lekki lagoon front is alarming and the area can no longer be left in the hand of individuals who have no regards for the relevant laws and guidelines covering the corridor.

The statement noted that the commissioner and his team had earlier visited the Gasikiya College, Sari Iganmu Road to ascertain the level of delivery of the right of way of the ongoing road construction in the area, and advised residents not to build on the RoW as that could impede the operation of the contractor handling the project.

In another development, the commissioner visited the Oyingbo Modern Market where he inspected facilities in the market complex to ensure that they could support the needs of the allottees when they eventually move into the four-floor structure.
