Man arraigned over alleged receipt of stolen property worth N54,000

An 18-year-old man, Safullahi Hassan, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Karshi Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over alleged receipt of stolen property worth N54,000.

The defendant, a resident of Nyanya Pantaker, Nyanya, Abuja, is facing a charge of dishonestly receiving and purchasing stolen property, an offence he denied committing.

The prosecutor, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that the defendant was arrested and brought to the Karu Police Station, on Aug. 28.

According to him, the defendant, dishonestly purchased and received three stolen security lights, valued at N54,000, from one Fahad Mohammed, knowing that the items were stolen.

Lawal said the stolen property from the house of one CSP Usman Magaji of Karu, Abuja.

He said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to committing the crime and all the items were recovered from him.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant N100, 000 bail, with one reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 16, for hearing.
