In a bid to tackle problem of housing and increase productivity of its member, the Nigeria Association of Industrial Pharmacists (NAIP) has acquired 105 hectares of land in Ofada community in Ogun state, for its members to build their homes.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with Leadershipng about the housing project, the Chairman, Residents Pharmacists Estate, Dr Lolu Ojo said the move would help to solve the problem of housing deficits in Lagos.
Ojo, said the project started when he was the chairman of the association of industrial pharmacists and it started in 2010, adding that he is proud of the progress so far.
He said, “The idea behind this great project was the need to do something for the association. if you want people to be active in the association and keep their hope alive amidst this harsh economy, you must do something for them. You know what individual cannot do, group can do it. I can just buy a plot of land anywhere, but when we buy as a group, it is easy for us, because it is cheaper and that is why i came up with this idea and my executive accepted it and today we have about 105 hectares of land.
“We have been very prudent in the management of the resources and that is why we have gone this far. Though, we do not have electricity, no good road and other things but we are working on that. We are planning to make this estate a garden city, flowers all over the place. There is going to be sport centre, where we would have table tennis court and basketball court. We are even making provision for event centre, hospital, police post and everything that an estate needed. It is going to be a place of relaxation after the day’s job.”
Ojo said the association has infrastructural challenge and that estimate that was done in 2010 has increase in recent time due to inflation and this has affected the project so far.
He said the price of the land has gone up due to the harsh economy, adding that despite these challenges, the association is hoping that people owing them would pay and by the time they sell the remaining land, it will cover up their loss.
Ojo urged government and private sector to assist them as they have been working without any support so that the estate would be a place they envisioned it to be in few years to come.
