Nigerian Army set to construct Cantonment to be named after Buhari

The Nigerian Army is planning to construct a Cantonment to be named after President Buhari – Some indigenous people of Abuja had accused Army of grabbing their land.

The Army boss, Buratai, however, urged the aggrieved persons to seek redress in court Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has said nothing would stop the Army from constructing a Cantonment to be named after President Muhammadu Buhari.

Report shows that while speaking against the protest by indigenous people of Abuja who condemned what they call the Army’s land grab move, the army chief advised the aggrieved persons should seek redress in court.

He explained that the Army has every right to the land as it possesses legal documents proving its ownership. The remarks by the army chief came at a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Army command estate and headquarters directorate of legal services of the Nigerian Army.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that the Chief of Army Staff disclosed that Nigeria is currently facing a number of internal security challenges ranging from terrorism, insurgency, kidnapping, communal strife, armed robbery among others. Buratai said the internal security challenges as a matter of urgency must be addressed to avert dire consequences on the socio-economic wellbeing of the country.

The Army chief made this known while speaking at the opening ceremony of the second quarter logistics planning seminar at the 81 Division Officers Mess in Lagos.
