NLC implores Ambode to consider low cost housing

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has implored the governor-elect of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode to consider low cost housing for workers in the state.

NLC said this is in order to ameliorate workers plight as well as measure up with the prevailing national minimum wage in the country.

“A situation where a worker is forced to pay about N500,000 per annum as rent in a remote part of Lagos is unfair and malicious,” Comrade Tokuboh Korodo, factional Lagos Chairman of NLC said.

He spoke in Lagos at this year’s May Day rally and said the prevailing housing policy and its implementation in the state is disappointingly elitist, highly advantageous to the upper class.

He said, “Housing remains the most required possession of a Lagos worker who is at the whims and caprices of the landlord who in most cases act arbitrarily as the whims catches him/her at the peril of worker-tenant who is at the receiving end unprotected by the law.”

He challenged the in-coming governor to revive all the ailing industries in the state.
