Reports show that the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has discharged 13,000 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, to Lagos jetty in an effort to end the scarcity of the product rocking the country.
According to New Telegraph, the product’s supply shortage had earlier surged the prices of the cooking gas by over 50 per cent in Lagos and other parts of the country. The gas company, however, said yesterday that its 13,000 tonnes vessels is billed to return to Bonny where it would reload for another round of discharge at Lagos jetty.
“NLNG’s vessel successfully discharged 13,000 tonnes of LPG to Lagos jetty over the weekend,” the company said in a statement signed by its General Manager External Relations, Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke.
The vessel, he continued, “is scheduled to return to NLNG’s facility in Bonny to reload. NLNG continues its efforts to ensure adequate supply and price stability to the market.”
The price of LPG, popularly known as cooking gas, had soared to N5,000 per 12.5kg from N3,200 in December. The NLNG said it would continue to work with stakeholders, including off-takers and terminal operators, to eliminate bottlenecks and improve operational efficiency to ensure product availability and help correct market price distortions, New Telegraph reports.
