NUJ Vows To Resist Sale Of Government Building Housing VON

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Cross River State has resolved to resist any arbitrary sale of the state government building housing the zonal office of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the Department of Technical Services of the Cross River State Ministry of Information in Calabar.

The building, situated at a prime location in the state capital, is alleged to have been sold to a businessman by the immediate past administration in the state.

The NUJ made this resolution at its monthly congress in Calabar on Tuesday.

In a five-point communiqué of the state council, signed by the state chapter chairman, Pastor Ndoma Akpet, and the state secretary, Comrade Nsa Gill, the NUJ vowed that it would resist the sale if found to be true and called on the state government not to accede to such sales by the previous administration, except where necessary procedures were followed.

The NUJ also commended the Federal Government for the appointment of a veteran journalist, Mrs. Etta Eyo-Ita, who joined Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA) over two decades ago and today is the managing director of CRBDA.
