Ogun establishes 300 ‘tertiary control points’ for surveyors

The Ogun State Government has established 300 tertiary control points to boost survey across the State in an effort to upgrade and re-equip the Department of Survey in the State Bureau of Lands and Survey.

The Head of Survey Department of the Bureau, Olatunde Onososen, made this known on Wednesday at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

He said Ogun State Government had procured sophisticated survey equipment that would make the job easy, fast and data collection more accurate.

According to him, the three satellite equipment known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) installed in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode and Agbara areas of the State were most efficient in data collection in the country as far as survey was concerned.

Mr. Onososen disclosed that the state government helped in establishing control points since surveyors have to tie their jobs to tertiary, secondary or primary control points, noting that almost 100 secondary and 300 tertiary control points have been established to make survey job faster.

“Survey in the state presently is technologically driven. Gone are the days when surveyors use analog equipment to work. Considering the upgrading of the Department, survey in the nearest future will be the best to reckon with in mapping, cadastral, geographical, topographical and every other aspects of survey in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.

The Head of Survey Department of the Bureau said that the department could boast of able hands to work with as more qualified surveyors and technologists were employed by the present administration to handle survey equipment in order to achieve efficient delivery.
