Property developer appears in court for allegedly defrauding 229 accommodation seekers

A property developer, Lukman Adewole, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding 229 accommodation seekers.

Adewole, 51, who resides at No.1 Okerinde Street, Baruwa Ipaja, Lagos, was arraigned on 229-count charges bordering on conspiracy, obtaining under false pretext and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Abraham Fadipe, told the court that the accused committed the offences between Jan. 26 and Sept. 1, at Lakad Solid Foundation property, No.1 Alfa Nla Street, Agege, Lagos.

Fadipe said that the accused entered into an agreement with the family of one Dickson Omojowolo to develop the property he used to defraud the accommodation seekers.

“Adewole sublet the property to 229 people at different times without following the lease agreement he entered with the family.

“The matter was reported to the police by one Adewole Olushola and the accused was apprehended in Iju-ishaga Area of Lagos,’’ Fadipe said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 285, 321 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Adewole, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr Oyetade Komolafe, granted bail to the accused in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Nov.11, for trial.
