Shippers’ Council secure 50,000 hectares of land for truck transit park

Business Day reports that Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, has secured 50,000 hectares of land at Obollo Afor, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State to build multi-million truck transit park.

Executive Secretary, NSC, Hassan Bello, represented by Ignatius Nweke, a director in Enugu Zone, who disclosed this in Enugu at the on going Enugu Trade Fair said that the  Enugu state government has given them a letter of allocation of the land.
Nigerian Shippers’ Council he said is waiting for the letter of Exchange which represents C of O to enable them take off properly.

Bello disclosed that apart from the truck transit park at Obollo Afor, they have identified eight different areas in the country for similar parks to be cited including Lokoja, Onitsha, Jebba, Mararaban-Jos, Ore, Ogere, and Jos.

According to Bello, the parks will have ancillary facilities that would make the users of the parks to feel comfortable and it is amind at reducing prevalence of heavy trucks and indiscriminate roadside parking when they become operational.

Some of the ancillary facilities that would make the parks enjoyable include among other things, paved and organised parking, mechanic works shops, hotels and motels, fuel station, fire service, and police station among others.

The parks he said would afford the cargo owners the means to monitor the movement of cargoes through a cargo tracking system to be located in the parts to avoid missing cargoes as well as trucks in transit it will also increase the revenue base of the states and LGAs as well as create employment opportunities.
The president of Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industry and Agriculture Ugo Chime represented by Vice president Trade Fair Jasper Nduagwuike commended Shippers council for its contributions to the fair.
