The long awaited flyover at the busy Ganaja Junction in Lokoja inches towards realisation with the award of the contract for its construction by the state government.
The contract for the construction of the flyover, which was awarded to Messers Tec Engineering Nigeria Limited, will cost N4bn.
The state Commissioner for Information, Hajiya Zainab Okino, who disclosed this while briefing journalists at the end of the state Executive Council meeting in Lokoja, said the approval for the award of the contract by the council was aimed at solving the problem of traffic jam being experienced at the Ganaja Junction on daily basis.
The commissioner said the project, which will commence before the expiration of the tenure of the present administration on January 27, 2016, would also eliminate the attendant losses in time and financial resources by motorists within the Lokoja metropolis as a result of the perennial traffic gridlock at the Ganaja Junction.
The Ganaja Junction, which leads to Ajaokuta, the host of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, also serves as the only route to the eastern part of the country and is always busy with traffic.
