The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa, has stated that the agency will re-construct and rebuild the burnt University of Jos Library that was gutted by fire recently.
New Telegraph reports that Baffa said this in Jos yesterday when he led a team of building expert on assessment visits to the permanent site of the institution where the Library was burnt last month.
New Telegraph reports that according to the TETFund boss, the agency would take full responsibility of reconstructing the burnt library section of the University of Jos to bring back the lost glory of the Library. He described the incident as a sad and gory moment, saying the Library is the heart beat of every institution of learning.
He explained that one of the mandates of the agency was to ensure the provision of infrastructure for teaching and learning, training of lecturers and funding for research among other things.
He added that the TETFund would ensure that the burnt facility would be fully equipped with all the necessary working tools as work of rebuilding the Library would start next week.
He said: “This is very sad seeing the Library which is the heart beat of every University burnt to ashes, we are really devastated and we share the pains of the University community, but we in TETFund are going to support the University which is one of our mandates to ensure we returned it back to its former stage”.
In addition, New Telegraph reports that the Vice chancellor of the university of Jos, Professor Sebastian Maimako appreciated the executive secretary for the prompt intervention and described it as apt considering the present economic situation of the country.
